Problem statement

ACTIV X needed a way to connect fitness enthusiast together in order to expand their social fitness network to help motivate and achieve fitness goals.

Research Methods

 

ACTIV X needed insight into the minds of fitness enthusiasts to see what common trends appeared to develop a fitness app that would support the development of each individuals fitness journey.

 

Key focus area

To understand the pain points of fitness app user experience.

How often they exercise and why they use fitness apps.

Why do they feel compelled to keep using the apps.

What features really engage and excite users.

What drives and motivates individuals to reach full potential.

Following the research phase including customer interviews, competitive analysis and user personas I was able to collect the findings which highlighted how there was an opportunity to develop a complete fitness app that would support individuals along their fitness journey and keep them engaged by being able to share progress with the community.

These exercises formed a great foundation to progress in the information architecture, sitemap and user flow phase of the app.

TRACK

The tracking feature allows the ACTIV X user to follow the progress of the activity. Once complete the workout can be stored in the activity feed.

 
 
 
 
 

SEARCH

The search feature allows the users to either ‘explore’ or ‘post activity’ to the ACTIV X community. Furthermore to this function is a set of filter parameters that allows the user to choose from a range of activities, gender, fitness level and number of people to train with.

Community

The community feature of ACTIV X allows the user to setup a profile, post content, message other
community users to build a strong network of like minded people looking to improve fitness.

 
 

 

Outcome

We tested prototypes to validate our assumptions and gain insight as to how the new resonates with users.  We then iterated, eliminating any pain points or misunderstandings; including the information architecture, visual indicators, language style used and more. The response was positive with our audience and ACTIV X will continue to evolve as more data is received and the product improvements are implemented.
